Hi there, sorry that it's been so long and thanks to all of you who hung on through this dry spell. I can only say by way of apology that since my last update (which, by the way, still rings true) I've been doing my usual globe-trotting, going to lots of interesting places and driving lots of interesting things.
A few highlights can be found below, but before we get there I wanted to give all you wonderful subscribers a little heads up that I'm soon going to be launching another Substack. Another? Yes, but hear me out. I dabble in fiction between my more factual efforts and, this holiday season, I wanted to serialize my biggest publication yet. The first part will be dropping soon. If you want to sample some of my science fiction, you can be the first to sign up here. No pressure. First part drops next week.
Now, on with the links
Exclusive on Ghost Autonomy - MotorTrend
An exciting exclusive for MotorTrend, an exclusive first ride in Ghost Autonomy's L4 (to-be) autonomous car. The company's following a similar path to Mobileye, focusing on finding a low-cost, low-power, high-efficiency solution to the seemingly Sisyphean task of self-driving cars. Here, though, the story is all about the software.Â
The Audi Q4 is Here - TechCrunch
This one's been a long time coming! Audi's flavor of MEB suffers from a few of the same foibles that have made the Volkswagen ID.4 a little hard too love, mostly an over-reliance on capacitive touchpoints. But, it's a compelling package. Â
Love Letter to a Simple Sports Car - Jalopnik
After my first day driving this Fairlady Z in Japan I wanted to throw the keys at the next person who looked like they might work for Nissan. Two days later, I dreaded having to give the thing back. This is the power a great drive can have.Â
Sublime Air - The Verge
Yes, I know that the Lucid Air sedan isn't without its problems -- I've read my fair share on various forums and user groups -- but damn when it's good it's good.Â
R's Meeting - Jalopnik
No, this isn't a glitch in the matrix, this is the world's greatest gathering of Nissan GT-Rs. It was an incredible day at Fuji Speedway and I hope I at least brought a little of the flavor back.
