That time I built a Lamborghini, and a BMW iX update
Factory visits are fun, but I'll stick to writing, thanks.
Good morning from Japan. A very early morning, as it happens. I'm at a little hotel that would be in the shadow of Mt. Fuji if it weren't for the fact that Fuji San is over to my west. So, I suppose you could say an extremely small portion of him is actually in my shadow, but let's not overstate things.
Anyhow, I'm out here driving some special Nissans, specifically their NISMO fleet, including the lovely GT-R you see above and the all-electric electric Ariya NISMO, which we don't get in the U.S. Stay tuned for more on that. Until then, here's what I've been up to since last we spoke.
Wrenching on a V12
Factory tours are one of my favorite things to do, but when Lamborghini gave me the opportunity to actually be a factory worker for a day, suffice to say I jumped at the opportunity. No, I didn't build a Revuelto start-to-finish. Still, I did sample the major steps along the way, including a taste of engine assembly, body assembly, upholstery, and even laying up carbon fiber. It was a real thrill and renewed my appreciation for the skill that's still required despite all the technology that has (literally) crept onto the assembly line.
More tread on our iX
We're more than a year into ownership of our BMW iX, and it's safe to say we're loving it. Well, mostly my wife, since she's put the vast majority of the miles on the thing so far, but I've definitely enjoyed any time I can get behind the wheel. What we didn't like, though, was winter performance of the all-season tires. For winter number two, we're trying some updated rubber. Where I typically go with a dedicated snow tire, I'm trying something a little different, something called an all weather fitment.
Is the GMC Sierra EV Denali worth the extra spend?
The Silverado EV is an impressive truck, but its high cost is making a lot of would-be buyers think twice. Can the even more costly Denali flavor of the GMC Sierra EV possibly be worth the extra spend? As it turns out, maybe. You'd be surprised what a lot of folks will spend on a gas-powered Denali, and this thing is so much nicer than those.
A field guide to Toyota hybrids
Not quite ready for an EV, but can't make up your mind on what hybrid is right for you? Don't worry, I got ya. I created a rundown of all the hybrids on offer from the Toyota portfolio. Yes, it's a lot.
Thanks as ever for reading. It's been great to see so many new subscribers lately. I appreciate you all and hope that Fuji San looks over you as brilliantly as he has me the past few days!
Very lovely GT-R!
